Asahi, the Japanese giant that snapped up Fuller’s beer brands earlier this year, has swooped on AB InBev’s Australian beer operations in an $11bn (£8.7bn) deal. The sale of Carlton & United, which owns brands including Victoria Bitter, Cascade and Crown, comes less than a week after InBev abandoned the near-$10bn float of its Asian operations in the face of poor investor demand.Asahi has rapidly expanded overseas in recent years in a bid to build its Super Dry into a global premium brand as the domestic beer market languishes.
